    Hello,
Thank you very much for showing the pictures of Kotabaru. That is my place of birth. I left Kotabaru as a toddler so I do not remember anything about that town/city. Amazing that with the help of the internet, I am now able to see photos of my birthplace.
    Thanks again, ‘iqbalir’.

    Hi Dr F Bachteram,
 First thing to say, wow amazing….
I am so surprise that you were born there. It’s unusual for foreigners to come to that place. It’s not so many tourist coming to that place. Even I don’t have a chance to got there if it’s not for working purpose. :hehe:

I glad that you can remember your born location by this picture.

    Hello Mr Iqbal,
Thanks for your reply/comments. I understood that you were amazed to read my note. However, you shouldn’t be too surprised that I was born there in Kotabaru. My Dad was a civil servant there. He was originally from Rantau, KalSel. He was the first Banjarese to become Mayor of Banjarmasin. Later on he was promoted to the Kementerian Dalam Negeri in Jakarta as the Head of Departemen Daerah2 Istimewa. That’s when he became good friends with Sultan Hamengku Buwono VIII. (I hope I got the number VIII right.)
To make a long story short, we are Banjarese (suku Banjar). I had the privilege to get a scholarship from the German Government a while ago to study at the Universität München. After graduating with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, I got an opportunity to work in Canada. I ended up settling down here and have a family. I went twice already to the “old country” to visit my brothers and sisters and their families in Jakarta.

Looking at your note above, I gather that you are an engineer (Ir). Am I correct with my guess?

Terima kasih for giving me a chance to see photos of my birthplace. Kalau kebetulan jalan2 ke Canada, dan mampir di Province of Alberta, let me know. Perhaps we then have a chance to meet and ngobrol-ngobrol…

    Hi Dr F Bachteram,
    Okay, now I can understand…
So, basically you are a Banjarese…. Waahh… Kirain orang bule asli yg lahir di Banjar… hehe… :hehe: Now I can understand…

Kalau gelar saya masih ST (Sarjana Teknik) mas, gelar Ir (Engineer) untuk pekerjaan saya yang memang seorang engineer, disamping memang diambil dari 2 huruf awal dari nama belakang saya…

Sure, I can’t wait to had a chance to go there… I heard that Canada was very cold at this time….??

    Hello Mr Iqbal,

Sorry for this delayed response, and thanks for your last note. My wife and I have been busy with cucu2 yang suka mampir dan bermain dirumah kami.

Well, they mainly play inside the house because it’s still quite cold outside. Sekarang masih diantara minus 11 dan minus 24 Celcius. Masih lumayanan jika dibandingkan dengan ketika awal Desember sampai baru2 ini: yakni minus 26 sampai minus 39 Celcius. Many of us, therefore, are still waiting for the spring to come.

When we went to visit my brothers and sisters in Jakarta in 2001, both my wife and I found it “too hot” – udah nggak biasa lagi dengan temperature setinggi itu. Lebih2 dengan itu humidity disekitar 95% sampai 100%.

Anyhow, that’s all for now. Take care and have a good and enjoyable weekend.

    Kind regards,

    Dr F Bachteram
